Syneto makes available to its users a couple of tools used to test internet browsing. These tools will allow the administrator to better asses if a Syneto UTM web proxy installation functions normally and within acceptable performance.

These tools are available for download by logging in to www.syneto.net and going to Download -> UTM Tools, or by following this link directly.

The installation package installs three tools:

natural_stress

This tool generates web traffic that simulates normal usage by clients. The "normal" usage means generating web traffic with predetermined patterns.

Usage: natural_stress [-hv] [-a hits] [-f file] [-i hits] [-m hits]
	         [-s integer]
a : average hits per second
f : url file (deafults to 'urls')
h : prints this help message
i : minimum hits per second
m : maximum hits per second
s : spread around hits (should be smaller than -i value)
	    v : verbose (shows dots)
	Configuration file: /usr/share/natural_stress/natural_stress_urls.txt

monitor_url_latency

This tool is used to monitor latency when accessing several internet sites. This tool is intended to be run while there is a lot of other web traffic in the network to get a clear understanding of latencies introduced by Syneto UTM web proxy.

Usage: monitor_url_latency
Configuration file: /usr/share/natural_stress/monitor_url_latency_urls.txt

monitor_davide_latency

This tool monitors latency to Syneto's Content Filtering server.

Usage: monitor_davide_latency [<syneto_content_filtering_server> [<port>]]
