Some times you may want to clean up an UTM disk. The reasons include:

  • Moving an UTM from a customer to another
  • Installing new UTM with a disk that has unwanted logs
  • Recovering from a broken filesystem
  • Installing a disk that already has a reiserfs partition as hdX2

To do this, the disk must be initialized by the system at startup. This is because manually repartitioning while the disk is in use might result in undefined behavior.

So you will have to instruct Syneto UTM to initialize the disk at the next reboot, by running this command from the CLI:

touch /config/force_init_harddisk

Now you will have to reboot, and upon restart the disk will be partitioned and formatted.
